Including some new ones that Joe had found, I think we're up to 67 parallels in the analysis all together, although some are out-of-sequence or entirely outside of the Gospel of Luke.

Several of Giles' new discoveries seem to be doublets to the ones in Joe's list. For example, Joe found four parallels in Luke between 7:1 and 8:26, with matches in Josephus' Wars between 4,6,366 and 4,9,501. Giles found four more parallels to those same Luke pericopes, with matches to JW, in sequence, between 4,6,106 and 4,6,323. I don't see much reason to believe that the new discoveries are any more or less valid than the old ones. If this is correct, it means that the author of JW ran through that particular sequence of events in Luke and created typological parallels twice, before continuing on with the story in Luke. This in itself seems significant, as another proof that the author of JW had access to Luke, and not strictly the reverse.

Giles, I'd like to get all of this new material organized & posted to the front page (wordpress site) here. Are the color-coded files all created using bbcode? I notice that many of them are posted at the 'Debating Christianity' site.

Here's my spreadsheet of the comprehensive list.

Yeah - it's becoming clear that the synoptic Gospels need to used in combination to tease out all the matching elements in typical parallels (or you need to regularly switch whilst following the chronology of Jesus' ministry). So people know they need to harmonise the gospels in order to get a more rounded picture of Jesus - but they didn't know Josephus is like another gospel: the "key" gospel in fact!

We could discuss those four parallels in the relevant topics of the forum, but they don't seem valid to me:

1) Faith of the Centurion: this was selected by the "Flavian Signature" after a more comprehensive framework was established and seems to be the correct match.

2) Mercy, the unburied... Joe's is the wrong match and out of sequence. The correct one is Fear rather than Death.

3) John possessed by a demon: this is a mini-parallel, but actually belongs to "John the Brainwasher", so by the time you get to "Demons of Gadara" you should already know that John has "demons" - also when you get to Simon's capture we know from "Demons of Gadara" that he was a man of the tombs with stonecutters, i.e intertextual reference only.

4) Power Over Wind and Sea: unconvincing in CM and only a "mini-parallel" even if valid. The correct match seems to be Storm Over Jerusalem (should be changed to Storm Over Judea), but I'm not 100%, although it looks pretty good. One problem is that "Let the Jews bury their own dead" appears several times in writing during the course of Jesus' ministry.

I've been "porting" over the images to BBcode - can do the same here if you can enable table support within BBcode on this forum as per the Debating Christianity site, which seems to use the same engine as this forum albeit with the table generator turned on. I didn't want to convert to BBCode, as the images can be shared easily on Facebook, but the forum staff are too conditioned there, and touchy. Also, I've had to play down Joe's work, as people are already trying to sabotage the topic and might force me to reply to some old Caesar's Messiah topic instead of proceeding with the new topic: the Flavian Signature in the context of the events of the Jewish War.

Sounds like a good idea re: new article/front page update on the Flavian Signature. Thanks for XLS link and comparing notes. I can go through it and give some feedback if you like. Just remember: most "mini-parallels" are meant to be part of bigger parallels with a larger context; and the gospels and Josephus are designed to be compared block by block - generally not sentence by sentence.

Hi Giles,

Are the originals of the images made using html, or something else? "Debating Christianity" looks like phpBB, while this site is Xenforo. As you say, Xenforo supports most BBcode, but not tables. I think it's possible to get tables enabled using some sort of plugin, I can look into it if it's important. Wordpress is html, I'm not sure if it supports BBcode or not.

Surprisingly enough, at least 10% of our site visitors are using iOS or Android. These concepts aren't easy to convey on a five inch screen, but we do what we can. The jpeg tables are pretty hard to see on an iPhone.

I made the originals using MS Word (a few of those are lost now; but I've retained most of them) then I converted them to JPEG for this forum and Facebook.

Yeah, it would be worth looking into, as tables really help to view things side-by-side.

I hear you re: Android! I guess text/tables is the way to go then... not many people seem to share on FB anyway. They're all too low level.

OK, I got a table add-on, and here's an example. There's some sort of interaction going on here with the 'default style', whatever that means.

Another table example.

For which of you, intending to build a tower, sitteth not down first, and counteth the cost, whether he have sufficient to finish it? Lest haply, after he hath laid the foundation, and is not able to finish it, all that behold it begin to mock him, Saying, This man began to build, and was not able to finish. Or what king, going to make war against another king, sitteth not down first, and consulteth whether he be able with ten thousand to meet him that cometh against him with twenty thousand? Or else, while the other is yet a great way off, he sendeth an ambassage, and desireth conditions of peace. (Luke 14:28-32)Now, when affairs within the city were in this posture, Titus went round the city on the outside with some chosen horsemen, and looked about for a proper place where he might make an impression upon the walls; 259but as he was in doubt where he could possibly make an attack on any side (for the place was no way accessible where the valleys were, and on the other side the first wall appeared too strong to be shaken by the engines), he thereupon thought it best to make his assault upon the monument of John the high priest; 260for there it was that the first fortification was lower, and the second was not joined to it, the builders neglecting to build the wall strong where the new city was not much inhabited; here also was an easy passage to the third wall, through which he thought to take the upper city, and, through the tower of Antonia, the temple itself. 261But at this time, as he was going round about the city, one of his friends, whose name was Nicanor, was wounded with a dart on his left shoulder, as he approached, together with Josephus, too near the wall, and attempted to discourse to those that were upon the wall, about terms of peace; for he was a person known by them. JW 5,6,258-261
