In contrast to my analysis of Samson on this thread, the following is a mythicist solar comparison of Samson with Hercules / Heracles. Don't worry, there is no problem. My analysis is strictly based upon what the text is telling us, as is the case for the wider OT analysis series. In other words, it does not depend on what the ultimate source(s) for the final product.Part 6
The most famous of the Biblical judges is Samson, of whom most of us know the major highlights of his narrative, and that ultimately he single-handedly brought down the Philistines' temple. Well ... single-handedly in addition to waiting for his long locks to regrow, after Delilah had shorn them in his sleep. But what did we learn or remember of the narrative minutia?
The first thing is that, unlike the other judges, Samson acts alone in his actions against the enemy.
In this mythic approach, Samson's Nazarite solar hair, and it being shorn, becomes even more intriguing, as does his killing of the lion. Intriguing in terms of other matters we've been discussing more recently on this forum. For instance, Dr. Price makes a quick quip about the possible relationship between the Coronavirus and the Roman goddess Coronis, consort of Apollo and mother of Asclepius the healer. Of course, Samson is not much of a healer, but the solar Christ was. And now Trump, the great Nazarite, has proclaimed with a wave of his hands that Coronavirus will magically disappear.
If this solar approach is true with regards to such as Nazarites, and it seems likely, then this is yet another aspect supporting that certain hair coloring was associated with all this.
