The theme of a takeover by runaway AI technology seems orthogonal to the various other doomsday scenarios discussed here (magnetic pole reversal, radiation poisoning, economic collapse, war and genocide) but perhaps complementary. I wonder if perhaps the real plan is for the intelligence in the Internet to stop somewhere short of human-level intelligence, so that the oligarchs can hope to control it.

Jay's Analysis asked Joe for an interview a while ago, but I think Joe was a bit freaked out by the Masonic eye of Horus and 666 hand symbol in Jay's logo. Maybe it doesn't mean anything. Or, if it conveys a message, what exactly does it mean?

I apologize Mr. Jerry, but I don't understand your meaning. I looked up the definition of the word orthogonal because I'm ignorant of its meaning. It seems to mean "at right angles to" or "redundant", but I'm not sure.

I'm actually not very familiar with Jay Dyer. I've listened to maybe five interviews with him. I get the impression he has no strong convictions regarding esoterica. Employing esoteric symbols on his website is probably more marketing than anything else. Mr. Joe Atwill should interview him, or vice-versa.

I'm interested in Artificial Intelligence because I perceive it as a genuine threat to humanity. To evaluate the seriousness of a potential threat, one must first understand it.

Potential threats are like snakes. As a kid I spent my summers sleeping alone on the ground in the swamps of Louisiana. It was impossible to avoid snakes in that environment, so learning which snake will kill you, and which you can safely ignore was critical.

I evaluate media presentations of Doom the same way. Most are cattle management techniques, but some are real.

Zardoz as part of that company of actual films. this 70s oddity to see how this highest “Illuminism” (and much more) was woven into the plot of an unlikely cult classic. Ok, and yes, to be fair, 2001: A Space Odyssey should be in that list as well.

If Eyes Wide Shut describes the present social strata of the elite secret societies, and Blade Runner describes the near future dystopic transition from man to A.I. replicant, Zardoz reveals the distant, post-apocalyptic era following a prolonged dark age.

John Boorman’s tagline is itself revealing, “After 1984. Beyond 2001,” giving us the genre from which we ought to draw to decode the symbology.

As the film concludes, Zed and Consuela, the one Immortal who chose to love him, exit the Vortex now that the Tabernacle had been destroyed and procreate. The film closes with Zed, Consuela and their son, a new Adam, starting the human race anew. In the last few frames, we see a cave painting of two hand prints and a gun, fulfilling the secrets of the ancient world are the truths of the future. Nietzsche is referenced in the film;

In a future post-apocalypse Earth in the year 2293, the human population is divided into the immortal "Eternals" and mortal "Brutals". The Brutals live in a wasteland, growing food for the Eternals, who live apart in "the Vortex", leading a luxurious but aimless existence on the grounds of a country estate. The connection between the two groups is through Brutal Exterminators, who kill and terrorize other "Brutals" at the orders of a huge flying stone head called Zardoz, which supplies them with weapons in exchange for the food they collect. Zed (Connery), a Brutal Exterminator, hides aboard Zardoz during one trip, temporarily "killing" its Eternal operator-creator Arthur Frayn (Niall Buggy).

Arriving in the Vortex, Zed meets two Eternals — Consuella (Charlotte Rampling) and May (Sara Kestelman). Overcoming him with psychic powers, they make him a prisoner and menial worker within their community. Consuella wants Zed destroyed immediately; others, led by May and a subversive Eternal named Friend (John Alderton), insist on keeping him alive for further study.

In time, Zed learns the nature of the Vortex. The Eternals are overseen and protected from death by the Tabernacle, an artificial intelligence. Given their limitless lifespan, the Eternals have grown bored and corrupt. The needlessness of procreation has rendered the men impotent and meditation has replaced sleep. Others fall into catatonia, forming the social stratum the Eternals have named the "Apathetics". The Eternals spend their days stewarding mankind's vast knowledge (through a voice-recognition based search engine), baking special bread for themselves from the grain deliveries and participating in communal navel gazing rituals. To give time and life more meaning the Vortex developed complex social rules whose violators are punished with artificial aging. The most extreme offenders are condemned to permanent old age and the status of "Renegades". But any Eternals who somehow manage to die, usually through some fatal accident, are almost immediately reborn into another healthy, synthetically reproduced body that is identical to the one they just lost.

Zed is less brutal and far more intelligent than the Eternals think he is. Genetic analysis reveals he is the ultimate result of long-running eugenics experiments devised by Arthur Frayn — the Zardoz god — who controlled the outlands with the Exterminators, thus coercing the Brutals to supply the Vortices with grain. Zardoz's aim was to breed a superman who would penetrate the Vortex and save mankind from its hopelessly stagnant status quo. The women's analysis of Zed's mental images earlier had revealed that in the ruins of the old world Arthur Frayn first encouraged Zed to learn to read, then led him to the book The Wonderful Wizard of Oz. Zed finally understands the origin of the name Zardoz — Wizard of Oz — bringing him to a true awareness of Zardoz as a skilful manipulator rather than an actual deity. He becomes infuriated with this realisation and decides to plumb the deepest depths of this enormous mystery.

As Zed divines the nature of the Vortex and its problems, the Eternals use him to fight their internecine quarrels. Led by Consuella, the Eternals decide to kill Zed and to age Friend. Zed escapes and, aided by May and Friend, absorbs all the Eternals' knowledge, including that of the Vortex's origin, to destroy the Tabernacle. Zed helps the Exterminators invade the Vortex and kill most of the Eternals — who welcome death as a release from their eternal but boring existence. Some few Eternals do escape the Vortex's destruction, heading out to radically new lives as fellow mortal beings among the Brutals.

Zardoz ends in a wordless sequence of images accompanied by the sombre second movement (allegretto) of Beethoven's Seventh Symphony (snatches of which are heard throughout the film). Zed and Consuella, dressed in matching green suits and having fallen in love, then sit next to each other in the cave-like stone head and age in time-lapse. A baby boy appears, matures and leaves his parents. The couple eventually decompose into skeletons and finally nothing remains in the space but painted hand-prints on the wall and Zed's Webley-Fosbery revolver

The comments section of this article should give some an idea of Jay's views on Caesar's Messiah in brief, in case that's why Jay Dyer is interested in an interview with Joe on that subject. I off course do not know what the interview would be about but I figured this is relevant. Did anyone hear the short interview that Jay did with Jan Irvin a while back? If that is any indication...

I like Jay's political analysis and some of his film analysis but the whole Platonic approach isn't my cup of tea. It's nonsense. That's why I'm suspicious.

Following Craig's link to the comment section, Jay says that Joe's book "Caesar's Messiah" is "nonsense". It's hard to know how to argue with "in-depth analysis" like that. Jay does seem to be a metaphysical Platonist (though he seems to avoid commenting on Plato's politics), whereas I find myself strangely able to hold Platonic metaphysics (the doctrine of forms), materialism, and constructivism all simultaneously in my mind without a strong sense of contradiction. So Jay's attempts to whip up philosophical controversy leave me cold.

Ex Machina is out on DVD now, so I've had the opportunity to watch it. Jay's analysis is pretty good, and I don't have a lot to add to it, except to say that the feminist element (which he briefly alluded to) seems very important to me. The men in this movie are un-dateable discards, and Ava represents a means for the feminine principle to reproduce asexually. The robot's transformation into flesh, and her return to oneness with nature, also evokes the end for any need of a masculine aspect to consciousness.

Interesting discussion, and funny that I just finished making a high tech Platonic comment to you about 'ousia', completely ignorant of this discussion.

ousia's reference to us as "... egalitarian wolves" is rather remarkable for what this comment mirrors about his/her/its (I don't think that 'actual' ousia properly has a sexual differentiation yet, but I could be wrong) views of humanity, and thus Plato's and Christianity's (disguised and/or degenerate Pali Buddhism as I read between the lines of Julius Evola?) preference for maintaining a caste/class system, i.e. feudalism. Evola seemed to argue, somewhat like Nicholas DeVere, that there was a 'benevolent' caste system at some long lost time and Christianity is/was a gross oligarchical perversion or co-optation of that.

The comments above about '666' hand symbols, technology, and doomsday scenarios is interesting as well. Sometimes a user of such a symbol might be ignorant of what it really means, or is using under a different contextual understanding than, say '666' originally meant. Or maybe Jay does indeed know what it means. This hand signal is now ubiquitously used by basketball players to celebrate the making of 3 point shots, and maybe some knowing 'agent' got this trend started - my doubting that every 3 point shooter is aware of the other meaning. Of course, such public obsessions on sports fanaticism is all part of the herding milieu as well.

Whatever the case, David Fideler's exposition, in The Sun of God, of what '666' (and IESOUS CHRIST - and not Jesus) means in a deepest esoteric (Pythagorian>Platonic) Biblical context seems to trump everything else, but maybe not necessarily exclude other secondary and derivative explanations. These latter foisted (paranoiac style) upon the masses to achieve various elite herding ends, and including the elite insiders that still run the 'Church'. Hence all the solar, Egyptian, illuminated esoteric imagery at such as the Vatican, e.g. Jachin and Boaz.

Understanding that the Sun is both our greatest benefactor, and at other times, our biggest bane, is reflected in such as Isaiah 45:7 where God asserts (in the proper translations) that he is the author of everything, the Good and the Bad. And thus we have the metaphorical Jesus and his evil twin brother, the 'fallen' angel Satan (Titus and Domitian as well?). The Sun driven climatic cycles are also reflected in the story of Joseph and 'pharaoh' collaborating (Genesis 47) to game all the markets and end up owning everything, and everyone - enslaving all the Egyptians. What does this say about Moses then 'heroically' later freeing the Hebrew 'slaves'?

Fideler's sophisticated and concatenated geometrical analysis definitively proves IMHO that the mathematical relationships determined the above names and numbers (such as 666) as esoteric solar references, highly evocative of Atonism IMHO), and then were cryptically embedded in such as the gospels and other church material. As with Gen 47, archaeology (Fagan's The Long Summer) has demonstrated that the ever changing relationship (thanks Milankovitch) of the Sun to the Earth is what has birthed and killed most all advanced civilizations, driving all the major migrations to and from Mesopotamia into Europe. The Milankovitch sun cycles can be observed in such as ancient lake sediments going back at least 300 million years. But these don't address the short term cycles as discussed by Genesis 47 (seven years of feast and famine).

As to technologies role in all this, I was just deciding what to do with posting a separate link with this article on whether the Internet may eventually create, in and of its own dynamics the end of Capitalism. I'm not so sure, as it seems to me that the elites have the power to control access by such as pricing and police state / faux terror means.
