Jerry, that's a great summary of Baker's book. (Sorry I goofed on the name. I was jumping to Mary Sherman.) You may have missed it, but she has also written DAVID FERRIE: MAFIA PILOT, PARTICIPANT IN ANTI-CASTO BIOWEAPON PLOT, FRIEND OF LEE HARVEY OSWALD, AND KEY TO THE JFK ASSASSINATION that might answer some of your questions. She's quite sympathetic to Ferrie and helps readers understand him.

She has interesting things to say about Oswald's Mafia connections, enough to make it as possible that he was a mob patsy as an intelligence patsy. (I am currently leaning to the mob conspiracy.)

And the Ochsner connection runs back the Garrison plot by way of INCA, a highly placed far-right anti-commie outfit. (Ochsner was private physician to the Latin America elites.) He was at the very top of the American medical establishment till he botched the polio vaccination. I have no doubt he would lend his particle accelerator to the spooks for an anti-Castro plot like Baker describes.

JV Baker was mistaken for Marina? From my POV, that might be an instance of the Oswald project needing a pinch hitter for the "real" Marina from time to time. Like my Beatles theory, the project and the personas needed to keep moving forward, even if subs were inserted because of illness or something else that kept them off the field. John Armstrong ("Harvey & Lee") has two long range Oswalds at work for years. If he's correct in saying that the Oswald project was designed to get a spy into Russia, how many other spy duplicates were developed over the same time span, with look-a-like subs, but that we know nothing about because these personas didn't have such a spectacular end? Baker's CV is much crazier than Oswald's, but nothing is known about these characters by outsiders until after the assassination. Like Hitler, their backgrounds could be part or whole cloth.

If he's correct in saying that the Oswald project was designed to get a spy into Russia, how many other spy duplicates were developed over the same time span, with look-a-like subs, but that we know nothing about because these personas didn't have such a spectacular end?

There were 11 known participants in the fake defector program, most with experiences similar to Oswald's. The ones where we have photos do look a lot like Oswald. As far as I know, you are the first to propose the program also had duplicates. How do you think they would be used?

Oswald's defection had a second purpose -- providing the U2 data needed to shoot down Gary Powers as part of a plot to shut down an upcoming summit.
